Where It All Began
Research in 2010
Research in 2010 SHIFT’s journey started with research, aiming to "Cure the Black Curse". Our Founder learned a lot about how hard it can be for African Americans to achieve economic mobility. This early research laid the foundation for everything SHIFT would become.
Empowering Communities
First-Time Home Buyer Program
Seeing a need in the community, SHIFT launched a program to help young people and families buy their first homes. By teaching them about homeownership and financial stability, SHIFT continued to making a lasting impact, much like a step in the learning process that builds on previous lessons.
Building Momentum
After-School Program
Our Founder went on to highlight mindset and education as pillar of economic mobility. SHIFT created an after-school program to help students understand the college application process. This was an important step, like the first stage of a learning process, as it helped SHIFT connect with the community and make a real difference.
Reaching New Heights
Virtual Training for East Africa
Africa Recognizing the importance of online education, SHIFT created virtual training programs for East Africa. This helped more people access important skills and knowledge, even if they couldn’t attend in person. It was a big leap forward, showing SHIFT's commitment to adapting and growing.
Expanding the Vision
Youth Development Consulting
As the after-school program grew, so did SHIFT's vision. Brisby expanded the program's focus, helping young people develop personal and financial skills to succeed in life. This shift was a turning point, as SHIFT began offering more than just financial aid advice—it became a place for youth to learn how to lead and grow.
The Future of SHIFT
LMS, Venture Studio, and SHIFT Forward Centers
Today, SHIFT is evolving more than ever. With an online Learning Management System (LMS), a Venture Studio that helps people start businesses, and plans to develop SHIFT Forward Centers that offer physical spaces for learning and economic growth, the organization is creating new opportunities for communities in East Africa.
SHIFT Enterprise Academy started in 2010 with a simple goal: to understand the challenges faced by first-generation college students. Like a machine learning model that gets better with each step, SHIFT has continuously evolved to meet the needs of students and communities.
